BeamPath™ — A Breakthrough in CO2 Laser TechnologyThe CO2 laser has remained the gold-standard for high precision laser surgery from the earliest use of surgical lasers. CO2 laser energy is highly absorbed by water, the primary component of most soft tissue, making it extremely efficient at cutting through tissue without generating. No other wavelength used in surgery provides this level of precision for no-touch tissue excision with an ideal level of microvascular coagulation and minimal risk of thermal damage to nearby structures. Since its initial launch, the BeamPath™ fiber has been used in over 8,000 adult and pediatric surgical procedures in the fields of Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Oncology, Gynecology, Pulmonology and Gastroenterology. With the third generation of flexible, no-touch, precision CO2 laser microsurgery, OmniGuide's BeamPath™ fiber system is redefining the boundaries of minimally invasive surgery. Until now, the CO2 wavelength has been limited to a line-of-sight delivery via mirrors integrated into articulating arms. This has significantly limited the ability of surgeons to reach tight areas outside of the line-of-sight. The versatility of a divergent laser beam permits surgeons to deliver CO2 laser energy, highly focused for cutting or defocused for "painting-like" ablation. CO2 laser energy's unique absorption properties minimize collateral damage and thermal injury to untargeted healthy tissue. Now, thanks to the brilliant scientists and engineers at MIT, this limitation has been overcome with the OmniGuide BeamPath™. The amazing invention of omni-directional, highly-reflective mirror technology has led to the development of a fiber-like CO2 laser light delivery system called the BeamPath™. The BeamPath™ is highly flexible and allows for the precise delivery of CO2 laser energy exactly where the surgeon needs it even in difficult to reach areas. After decades of struggling with awkward and limiting articulating arms, now surgeons can gain the enormous advantages of the 10.6 micron CO2 laser wavelength with the convenience and versatility of fiber delivery. OmniGuide has designed a range of hand-pieces for the BeamPath™ that have been shown to be ideal for procedures in; spinal oncology, otology, laryngology, head & neck surgery, gynecology, pulmonology, gastroenterology and neurology. The OmniGuide BeamPath™ has opened up a whole new range of applications for CO2 lasers. Additionally, OmniGuide also offers three state-of-the-art CO2 lasers providing all the features demanded by today's laser surgeons. |
